Residential schools
The reason
residential schools where made was so they could send all the native kids there
and make them not want to be native, to make them no longer like their beliefs
and think it is wrong to believe in anything other than god. What they did in
the schools was wrong it is one of the worst things that have happen in Canadians
history, all the teachers that beat the kids in the school should have to face
prison sentences now for what they did to the kids. The main idea of the
schools was to kill the native in the child witch is a horrible thing to do and
the fact that the last school was closed in 1996 is scary to think of because Canada
did not make it illegal to beat kids or did not know what they were doing in
the schools till then. To think if they did not know what was happening in the
schools till then what else could be happening in Canada that we do not know of
yet that is illegal. I feel this way because the first school opened in the
1850s and the last school closed in 1996 so the schools went on for well over
100 years so why did it take so long to close the school or was all of Canada turning
a blind eye to the fact. If it took this long for someone to stand up and say
this is wrong or for people to finally realize that what they were doing in the
schools was wrong and the kids were not getting the education they were sent
there to get then what else are we turning a blind eye to. Could it be we are
ignoring the fact that we are too lazy to throw garbage in the landfills and it
does not just kill animals in our country when we don’t throw are garbage in
the landfills it could be killing animals around the world because it drifts
across the ocean. The job in the residential schools was to “kill the native in
the child” and that is what they did they made them think that being native is
bad and that is why a lot of the kids that were in the schools turned to
alcohol and drugs or suicide because they thought being native was wrong and
some could not live with what they had to be put through in the schools. Why did
it take Canada so long to realize that the schools did not help the kids and
that they were being killed in the schools, what else could be happening that
we don’t know of.
